Linux is for your wife

I read couple of blogs claiming Linux is ready because his/her wife or old granny was able to use it without any problem.

Here is my view on this.

First of all, what are the general work your wife or old granny do on the computer?

1. Surf net
2. Chat
3. Listen Music
4. Maybe little of word processing

So you say Linux is ready because it can do above mentioned work nicely?

Linux was able to do such work since last decade. Instead of judging the maturity of Linux with less tech savvy wife and granny, it should be compared with technocrats who wants his/her computer to do everything, try new gadgets, always play with new software and so.

Does your new printer or you ipod work with Linux?
Does your brand new laptop behave well?
Is you printer recognized and you can use free wifi?
Can you name few games you have played on your Linux box?

.
.
.
and the list can go on.

So is the Linux ready?

    I do not use my computer to play games. That is what my PS3 and Wii are for.

    I am not a gamer but few games I play (sometimes) are, frozen bubble, gosu, sokoban, unreal tournament .....

    Desktop linux has always been and will remain to be years behind on windows.

    hardware support is crap and video hardware acceleration is a joke. Linux jockeys should try writing & maintaining an application for a change. It's an eye-opener.

Adobe stand alone flash player for Linux is available. Most of us only need flash plugin for browser to view swf. But sometimes we or most of the times developer wishes for the availability of stand alone flash player for Linux. Increase Free Space On HTC Desire Android Phones

Are you running out of free space on phones like HTC Desire and variants? It only has about 150MB of free space and after official Gingerbread 2.3.3 update the free space has decreased. Its really frustrating seeing all those apps with 20MB+ size eating up valuable space on Android phones. Even with App2SD I had very very difficult time maintaining free space. Installing apps like Facebook, Google Plus, Google Reader would eat up all the space. Today I used link2sd to increase free space on my Android phone and now I've more than 1GB of free space for installing apps.
